Revised Format

The Scotland Hip Hop Dance Championships, in association with Hip Hop International and presented by idance® is the premier street dance event in Scotland.

Due to technical issues, we are unable to present the event live, as usual. To avoid disappointment the event has been reformatted, for 2017 only, as an online interactive video preselection.

World Championships Qualifiers

This event is a World Championships Qualifier
Crew Category: Crews are 5-9 dancers (MegaCrews 15-40 dancers) arranged in the following three age divisions –

Junior Division (Juniors) ages 7-12 years old
Varsity Division (Varsity) ages 13-17 years old
Adult Divisions (Adults) ages 18+
MegaCrew Division dancers can be any age.

Age Calculation and exceptions:

1) A crew can have a maximum of 2 (two) dancers younger than the proposed age division but none can be older.
2) The age of the dancer is based on their age at any point during the calendar year of the respective World Championships.
For example: World Championships are August 2017. A dancer turns 18 on January 2, 2017. This dancer is eligible for either the Varsity or the adult division because they were 17 on at least 1 day during the competition year (2017).

Special Rules for Video submission

For this year competitors will be selected by video pre-selection. Participants will still get a quality decision from one of our top judges, and will still be bestowed Certification and the coveted right to represent Scotland at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships.

Pre-Selection and Criteria

Our head Judge, Del Mak, will pre-select from one up to four crews to represent Scotland at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships based on HHI formal judging criteria.

For any age division in which there are 5 or more entries, the top crew will be named National Champions.

Voting Wildcard – One crew will be presented the opportunity to represent Scotland by Audience Choice. This will be the crew with the most votes. If the crew with the highest number of votes is also selected by the judge(s) the next crew on the list will be chosen until the first un-preselected crew is determined. Only crews whose video conforms to HHI criteria can be selected.

Entry Fee £3.70/pp/crew

Deadline for video Submission is midnight May 1, 2017

Results will be announced here May 5, 2017, at 9:00 pm with voting results announced May 6 at 9:00pm GMT.

Submission is a simple process.

Competition piece is to be from clean, unedited video, shot with a single fixed camera. The video must be taken from the front. No zooming or panning is permitted. No wide angle or close up lenses may be used. No video effects may be used.

The video may have a title card with the crew’s name or text introduction. No commentary, written or verbal, about what the piece is about or represents is permitted. It is recommended that the video is shot ‘fresh’ in-studio, a car park, an open space, etc. It is not necessary to have a professionally shot video as long as the video is in focus and in a fixed position as indicated above. A tripod or other stabiliser is recommended. Videos from performances or competitions are not acceptable.
